| - Dairy cows : Opportunities
for placements on dairy farms are offered all year round. The most common
breeds raised in France are Prim'Holstein, Montbéliarde, Normande,
Pie-Rouge, Jersey... Working on this type of farm does not only imply milking,
but also field work and general farm work. |
|
|
- Grain and arable crops : The work mostly
consists in tractor driving and farm machinery handling. Grain farmers do not
host trainees during winter time.
- Beef cows :The placements offer different breeds : Charolais and Limousin, Blonde d'Aquitaine ...
- Pigs (hogs) : It concerns candidates who have already acquired an experience
in this production as well as trainees willing to discover this production.

- Sheep, goats : Two types of production : meat
or milk for cheesemaking. On those farms, the tasks include lambing, taking care and handling the mobs, milking,
feeding, as well as general farm work.
|
|
- Other productions : poultry, rabbits, bees...
: A few possibilities for applicants with a practical experience in these areas (or a special education)
or trainees with high interest in those fields.

|
Few placements available in vegetable, orchard, and fruit
productions, greenhouses and flower production (including pot plants),
outdoor nurseries (trees, including fruit trees and forest trees) retail garden centers and landscaping.
N.B. : Trainees placed in horticulture
do not usually live with their host employers. These host farmers generally
have a few employees and are not ready to share their family life with
a trainee. Before their arrival in France, the coordinator of SESAME and
the host farmer will look for an independant accomodation nearby.

Most traineeships take place during the vintage.
Those placements are usually for a short time : arrival from mid-August till the end of September
and end from mid-October till the end of November. The main French wine
producing regions are : Bordeaux region, Burgundy, Alsace, Loire valley, Languedoc-Roussillon,
Côtes du Rhône...
The trainee works in the cellar during the harvest and participates in the wine making process.
Oenology placements only last three months max. There are no one-year placements in viticulture / oenology.

| Diversified and sustainable agriculture |
|

Agriculture is greatly evolving
and experiences numerous changes. New types of traineeships are appearing enabling
trainees to discover the various aspects of agriculture.
A few placements are offered in the following topics : organic farming,
sustainable agriculture, processing and direct
selling of agricultural products (cheese, honey product ...), equestrian farms, agri-tourism ...
